Copyediting comes after developmental editing and line editing. By the time your work is ready for copyediting, you will have already revised and rewritten it. 

As your copyeditor, I strive to make your writing clear, consistent, concise, and correct.

1. I make your writing clear by addressing vague and confusing sentences so your readers can better understand your story or message. This includes the following:

• Eliminating or replacing unnecessary jargon.
• Rewording sentences that have misplaced modifiers or dangling participles.
• Rewording sentences with unclear pronoun antecedents.
• Breaking extremely long sentences into shorter ones.

2. I make your writing consistent by addressing anything that isn't in harmony within your book so your readers can have a smooth reading experience. This includes the following:

• Words that have more than one correct spelling. 
• Character and setting descriptions that inexplicably change.
• Characters performing actions that aren't physically possible (unless magic or special abilities are involved). 
• Character traits that change for no apparent reason.

3. I make your writing concise by addressing wordiness so your readers can easily see your ideas. This includes the following: 

• Eliminating redundancy.
• Eliminating or reducing repetition.
• Replacing weak phrases where a word would suffice.
• Changing passive voice to active voice.

4. I make your writing correct by addressing errors so your readers will see you as the professional author you are. This includes errors in the following:

• Grammar.
• Spelling.
• Capitalization.
• Punctuation.
• Simple formatting.

As your copyeditor, I also notify you if anything needs to be fact-checked (or I do it myself). I will also point out any possible copyright permissions you may need to obtain.

Proofreading comes after copyediting. It is the final part of the editing process. There should be few errors by the time your book is being proofread.

As your proofreader, I thoroughly and carefully examine your writing forward and backward,

word by word, punctuation mark by punctuation mark, to catch and fix anything overlooked in the previous levels of editing. This includes errors in the following:

• Grammar.
• Spelling.
• Capitalization.
• Punctuation.
• Simple formatting.

If I find any sentence level errors, I will point them out, particularly if they are noticeable or may affect reading comprehension.

I also check other details to ensure they are accurate. This includes the following:

• Page numbers.
• Links to websites.
• Table of contents.
• Captions for illustrations.
